"English (General English) Plus Internship/Work Experience Programme"
Those with Tourist Visa
Those with Student Visa
Entry Requirements
Where are the Internships?Specialty Language Centre is pleased to announce that we have developed an Internship/Work Experience programme, with various positions being introduced through a professional personnel consultant (hereinafter referred to as the Consultant) to students who have a tourist visa or student visa (conditions apply). There will be no payment to students from the employer.
To receive internship/work experience introduction, the student must first enrol in an English language (General English) programme at Specialty Language Centre for a minimum of 12 weeks (on a full-time basis).
Specialty Language Centre has a special arrangement with some professional personnel consultants. The Consultant will introduce the students to a position.
The student must accept the terms and conditions offered by our consultant.
Jana from Germany Internship area:
Social work“I want to say thank you very much for your hard work. I really enjoyed the internship. It was a great experience, professionally and even personally. Additional I could improve my English in all these areas. All my colleagues were very friendly, helpful and took a lot of time to explain everything to me. To sum up I can say it was a very successful time and I’m sure I can use all these new experiences in my new job in my home country. Thanks a lot for your whole organisation I will recommend your company to other students or to people who are interested in work experience in Australia”
In an initial interview, students are required to present their resumes and if available, reference letters from their previous employers. The students and the Consultant will discuss the type of work which may be available to the student. Based on their professional experience, the Consultant will decide whether they can help the student in finding a job.
After an interview with an employer, which is arranged by the Consultant, the student may decide whether or not to accept the offer. Introductions to possible employers are limited to one. Students should be aware that due to current employment conditions, employment is difficult to find, so students are advised not to be too particular with regard to the types of jobs they are offered.
After the student is accepted by the employer and the student has accepted a position, our college and the Consultant are no longer responsible for finding the student a position for an internship or work experience.
Either Specialty Language Centre or the Consultant is in no way responsible or liable for any damages or losses during the internship/work experience and the student accepts all responsibilities personally.
Students come to Australia on one of the following visas. This is a guideline to which visas should be applied for, depending on the length of your stay and your intentions:
A tourist visa entitles the holder to study and do an internship/work experience usually for less than 3 months.
The holder is entitled to work in an unpaid position as long as the nature of the job is not normally remunerated. This usually means that the organisation either has to be a not-for-profit organisation or any other organisation that has had interns in the past. So this effectively means any company including banks, legal firms, marketing etc...where we have placed interns before.
Examples of non-profit organisations include Amnesty International, Unicef, and community centres. Most social work would also fall within this category. Examples of social work include; working in a community centre, working on community projects and projects to help disadvantaged people in the community.
Ji-Na from Korea Internship area: Finance
“The internship was such a wonderful experience for me. Everyone really looked after me and helped me a lot with all my questions. It was definitely a great experience. Thank you”
Students who come to Australia to study are also entitled to work in paid and unpaid positions. Student visas are not automatically granted with work rights, and so students may need to apply for that separately when or after applying for the visa. These visas are granted when the student enrols in an accredited college or educational institution to study in Australia.
You are able to work for 20 hours a week (paid or unpaid ) and full time during their semester breaks. Students can do an internship for any number of hours on top of the 20 hours paid work.
We currently have quite a number of students undertaking an internship on part time basis while studying at colleges and institutions.
Part time internships are usually for longer periods which means the student gains more experience and spends more time with the employer. The student will receive a reference from the employer for a longer period!!
Lukasz from Poland Internship area:
Journalism“Before I did the internship I didn’t really understand why I should pay to do an internship. I can really say now after doing the internship that it was probably the best investment in my future. The newspaper even published 2 of my articles. I couldn’t believe it!! I think I will definitely have a better chance of getting a job than the rest of my friends in Poland”.
(NOTE - Student Visa students. As you must study full-time for the duration of your visa, the part-time work placement option is the one that is suitable for you. Working hours will be arranged according to your study commitments.)
1. To be eligible for the internship/work experience programme, the student must reach an upper intermediate level of English proficiency.
2. As to the tuition fees and minimum duration of an English Language (General English) course in conjunction with the internship/work experience programme, please contact:
